Community Health Initiative
Your Pride Center's Community Health Initiative is designed to address disparities that exist in the delivery of health care services, and in health outcomes, in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. We do this through four primary focus areas:
Women's Wellness Connection:
Provides access to free or reduced-cost breast- and cervical-cancer exams for women who qualify. Call Linda at 719 471-4429, or email

Colorado Rocks! - a Men's Health Service
(open to all) Providing free & confidential rapid testing for HIV; tobacco cessation services; substance abuse recovery support; free condoms & lube; and Health Navigation. Call David at 719 471-4429 or email

Transgender Health
We are building a growing list of competent providers for the transgender community, and reaching out to the medical community to educate more providers in this growing field. Call Cara at 719 471-4429 or email

Providers and Resource Project (in progress)
Once complete, this will be a comprehensive list of physical and mental health care providers in the Pikes Peak Region that are culturally competent to serve the LGBT community. In-house training for providers will be made available, to help doctors' offices and other providers understand the unique needs of our community.

Get Involved in Community Health!
Your Pride Center depends on a dedicated group of volunteers to serve the more than 3.000 people a year that call or come in for services. Volunteer orientation is held every other Friday at noon; email our volunteer coordinator,

Sexual Health. Our HIV Prevention Advisory Committee meets monthly on the last Tuesday of each month at the Center, to advise our staff on the outreach we do. No health background is necessary; email

to RSVP. This committee is also the place to start if you're considering getting trained to become one of our certified HIV rapid testers.
Street Outreach. Team H.O.M.O. (Health Outreach Mobilized Outrageously) is our street outreach team that distributes condoms & lube, safer sex information, and info about our other health programs to clubs and other venues in town. If you're social and campy, Team HOMO is the place for you!
Women's Wellness. Your Pride Center is the Southern Colorado agency with the State Health Department contract to do outreach for this federally-funded program which connects under-insured women who qualify with free or reduced-cost breast- and cervical-cancer exams. Email

GLBT Health Consortium. Organizations that serve members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community are invited to send a representative to our monthly Health Consortium meeting, held at noon on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Bring a sack lunch, network with other professionals, share what you know and learn more about the people you serve.

Mission
Our mission is to empower lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people to achieve civil and social equality.
Vision
We envision a thriving Colorado Springs in which all people, including GLBT people, can reach their full potential as human beings, free from oppression and discrimination. We envision a region where individual rights are honored, and constitutional rights, including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are upheld for all people.
History
Pikes Peak Gay & Lesbian Community Center is a 501(c)3, nonprofit organization founded in 1978 and formally incorporated in 1981. As one of the oldest LGBT centers in the nation, the Pride Center continuously works to foster a vibrant sense of community and create a safe, inclusive, affirming, and equitable civil and social environment where GLBT people and their families can thrive. Beginning as primarily and social group and help-line, the Center has expanded to meet the changing needs of our community. --
